48x36, Oil, Mica, Enamel and Ashes on canvas, Commissioned by All Souls Charlottesville For the season of Lent, each member of the All Souls community wrote down individual laments—broken and hopeless places in their lives in and our world. Prayers were lifted, and the papers were collected and burned. It was the literal "ashes of lament" that were then used to create this piece.
