Painted this in shifts between house searching. (Sound on.) Our search hasn’t yet been fruitful, but it’s filled my mind with thoughts of home. Home not just as a structure… but as a place where the things that matter most intersect. This image did that for me.
I usually make my own compositions, but the photograph this painting is based on was so compelling… so powerful to me… that everything in me just wanted to keep going back to it, to absorb it. And so I decided to paint it.
The moon, the clouds, and the mountain each resonate with me in a specific way; there’s a lot of symbolism in the image that echoes my other work. But the point was allowing them to exist together. To create a space that connected the things that resonate with the deepest parts of me… the things that make me who I am. Feels funny to say it, but it feels like I painted home.
